During his meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, President Hu Jintao warned over violation of the UN Security Council resolution over Libya by the Western coalition troops. "The aim of the UN's resolution is to stop violence and protect civilians," Hu said, adding, "If the military action brings disaster to innocent civilians and creates a bigger humanitarian crisis, that would violate the original intention of the Security Council resolution,"

In the wake of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's assertion of US "national interest" in South China Sea, the Chinese Government has apparently stopped labelling the South China Sea as China's "core interest". But it has not disclaimed it either.

After their execution dates were delayed by about a month thanks to appeals for clemency from Philippine President Benigno Aquino, three Filipino drug-traffickers were finally put to death in Xiamen and Shenzhen, amid allegations that one of the convicts might have been used as an unwitting drug courier. 72 Filipinos remain on death row in China for drug-trafficking.
